Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) are almost closed in the White-Ball series next month. The SLC is allegedly in conversation with the BCCI to host a small white-chain chain in early August, as both boards have a rare window open in their schedule.
The occasion came after the Lanka Premier League (LPL), which was to be held in August, was postponed. At the same time, India and Bangladesh agreed to postpone their six-match White-Ball series, which were also planned to be held in August.
Sri Lanka set up India hosting India in important prep ahead of ICC T20 World Cup 2026
With this unexpected brake, SLC approached the BCCI with a bilateral chain proposal. A senior official of Sri Lanka Cricket revealed that he had received positive signs from the Indian Cricket Board, and the final talks will take place this week during the ICC meetings in Singapore.

The officer also revealed that the final decision would be taken within the next two or three days. If the BCCI sanctions, the proposed series will probably be played in Colombo and Candy. The original plan is to play three Odis and three T20I, but with the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 next year, the focus is expected to move more towards the T20I games.
We have received positive response from BCCI: SLC
A senior SLC official was told by Telecom Asia Sport, “We have received positive response. There will be further discussion in Singapore during the ICC meeting. We expect a final decision within two or three days.”
Meanwhile, if the series gets a green signal, it will be a dual win for Sri Lanka. The proposed matches are not only expected to help the Sri Lanka cricket team prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026, but also provides very important financial boost for SLC.
Revenue from broadcasting rights alone can bring revenue to several million dollars, helping the Sri Lankan Cricket Board overcome recent financial stress. Speaking of on-field benefits, the islanders are still recovering from the loss of the 2–1 T20I series for Bangladesh-defeat the tigers for the first time in this format, and that too at home.

Sri Lanka seems to be back from the loss of Bangladesh with India series
Captain Cherith Asanka already urged the SLC to arrange for more difficult matches before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, and facing India will offer ideal preparations for them. Playing against a team like India will allow Sri Lanka to test various combinations, give opportunity to fringe players and get a valuable match experience in pressure situations.
In particular, both sides last played a bilateral series in 2023, where India won the T20I, while Sri Lanka bounced back to Odis. The Indian cricket team is currently playing in the five -match Test series in England, and is ready for the fourth Test in Manchester.
