There is a strong rumor spreading on social media that BCCI is approaching former Test great Virat Kohli to change its decision and make a comeback in the longest format of the game. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has finally made an official comment on this.

India have failed to look very promising in the red ball format, as they do in the white ball format. Furthermore, despite the huge amount of talent, the Indian batting line-up lacks stability without the presence of a senior professional to guide them in tough and pressure situations.

Devjit Saikia dismisses rumors of Virat Kohli’s Test comeback

Virat Kohli has been missing from the format ever since India struggled to maintain consistency in Test cricket and lost the home series to South Africa. Some reports say that BCCI is thinking of bringing back some retired players.

However, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia confirmed in an interview with Aaj Tak that the BCCI has no intention of making any request to Virat Kohli regarding his retirement. He clarified that no discussion has been initiated on this proposal.

Devjit Saikia told Aaj Tak on Sunday, November 30, “What is being said about Virat Kohli is just a rumour. There has been no conversation with Kohli about this. Don’t give importance to rumours. Nothing like this has happened.”

Former cricketers also supported the return of Virat Kohli

After rumors and speculations gained momentum on social media, many former cricketers like Kohli’s former Under-19 teammates and even former England batsman Kevin Pietersen opined that if the veteran player is willing to come back, he should be brought back into the team.

“I don’t always believe what I read in the media or on social media. But, if it is half true that both Virat and Rohit are considering playing Test cricket again, then it needs to be taken very seriously. The existence of Test cricket is a hot topic of conversation, and if the game’s biggest stars want to play it again, then they must!” Kevin Pietersen wrote on X.

Virat completed his 52nd ODI century for India

After Test retirement, Virat Kohli is now only a one-format cricketer for India. When a great player like him plays only one format, the determination to prove himself in every game increases even more.

The ODI series in Australia was not particularly surprising for Virat, as he struggled to get consecutive ducks on his return, but by the end of the series, he reassured everyone with a brilliant match-winning half-century.

After coming back to India, Kohli looked in a different mood from the very first ball in Ranchi. He came with a purpose and probably accomplished it before getting out. This is the 52nd ODI century for the Indian legend as he continues to rank himself high in the game of cricket.
