Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the schedule of the much-awaited India tour of Afghanistan to be held in June 2026. After the conclusion of the IPL, Indian fans will see a mix of seasoned veterans and young talents returning to the national colours. IPL venue for historic test debut

In a historic move for Indian cricket infrastructure, the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) is set to host its first Test match. The red-ball matches will take place from June 6 to June 10, indicating the venue’s evolution from a preferred IPL destination to an accepted Test centre.

Cricket lovers of the area were waiting for this moment for a long time. While the stadium has hosted high-octane T20 fixtures before, the five-day format will test the character of the surface and the players’ patience in the summer sun. For Afghanistan, this is only their second test match against India. His debut in the format in Bengaluru in 2018 was a tough introduction, where India won dominantly by an innings and 262 runs. The Mullanpur Test provides a new opportunity for the spectators to showcase their technical growth in the longest edition of the game.

India’s home series schedule against Afghanistan

After the Test match, the focus will turn to the three-match ODI series starting on June 14. This leg of the tour is particularly historic as it marks the first bilateral ODI series between India and Afghanistan; Their previous encounters in the 50-over format have been limited to multi-team tournaments such as the Asia Cup and the ICC Cricket World Cup.

The series will travel across the country, starting from beautiful Dharamshala on 14th June. The action will then take place at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on June 17, and conclude at the prestigious MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on June 20. Historically, India lead with three wins in four ODIs, although the memorable encounter during the 2018 Asia Cup is a reminder of Afghanistan’s ability to punch above its weight.
