transfer from M.Chinnaswamy Stadium The local fans in Bengaluru have been disappointed. While tradition dictates that the defending champion’s home ground often hosts the following year’s final, the BCCI cited “Operational and logical considerationsThis was outside their established protocol.
Deeper concerns regarding crowd management probably influenced this pivot. The venue faced intense scrutiny following the tragic events of last year’s Victory Parade, where 11 people lost their lives during the ceremony. Although the stadium was approved to host league matches, due to the larger scale of the IPL final, and specific demands from the local authorities, the BCCI considered Ahmedabad a safer and more suitable option.
The Narendra Modi Stadium, with a capacity of over 110,000, offers a controlled environment capable of handling the global spotlight. However, this decision has not been without critics. Cricket fans have expressed concern over the alleged venue monopoly, arguing that iconic grounds such as the Eden Gardens in Kolkata or Wankhede in Mumbai are being ignored in favor of Gujarat’s flagship. Despite the controversy, the stage is now set for a cinematic finale to the 2026 season.
