After his heroics in IPL 2026, there is a growing demand for the inclusion of “Boy Wonder” Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian team. Many veterans of the game have said that this 15 year old player can do wonders on the international stage as well.
Now, the BCCI has made a definite statement in support of Suryavanshi and his future in Indian cricket. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia spoke to reporters after the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won their second consecutive IPL title with a five-wicket win against Gujarat Titans in the final.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi in IPL 2026
Although this season belonged to RCB as a team, Vaibhav Suryavanshi walked away with far more individual honors than his 15-year-old shoulders.
In this tournament, Suryavanshi scored 776 runs at a strike rate of 237 and hit 72 sixes. He also has 5 half-centuries and one century to his name, including three dismissals in the 90s.

At the end of the season, Suryavanshi had the most runs (Orange Cap), most sixes (Super Sixer Award of the Season) and best strike rate (Super Striker of the Season Award) of any batsman in the competition.
He also won the IPL’s official Most Valuable Player award. Vaibhav Suryavanshi ended IPL 2026 as the youngest player to win the Orange Cap.
His 72 sixes were the most by a batsman in a single T20 tournament, and he became the first player to score 600 or more runs at a strike rate of over 200 in a T20 tournament.
“His future is bright” – Devjit Saikia
After the IPL final, Saikia said that the BCCI will do everything to ensure that Suryavanshi has a successful career at the highest level.
The teenage sensation moved one step closer to a national debut after being selected in India A’s squad for the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka in June.
Saikia said, “It was a great season… I hope all the fans have a good time during this IPL and congratulations to RCB for winning the tournament twice in a row. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is an amazing player and has a bright future. BCCI will do everything to get him to the highest level of cricket.”
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s cricket career
Apart from his IPL 2026 exploits, Suryavanshi has had a fruitful career at the Under-19 level, which resulted in him being crowned the Under-19 World Cup winner earlier this year.
He was the second-highest run-scorer in that tournament, including scoring 175 runs off just 80 balls in the final against England.
In September 2024, he scored the second fastest century ever in a Youth Test at the age of just 13 with a century in 58 balls against Australia.
In December 2025, he scored a century in 36 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. That day, he scored the fastest 150 in List-A history by achieving the milestone in 59 balls and eventually scored 190 off just 84 balls.
Suryavanshi also holds the record for the second and third fastest centuries in IPL history, and he came very close to taking the top spot when he scored 97 off 29 balls against SRH in the Eliminator this year.
