The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the official medical update on Indian batsmen. Shreyas IyerConfirming that he has been discharged from hospital and is recovering after suffering a serious abdominal injury during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on October 25.
Shreyas Iyer suffered spleen injury during Sydney ODI
During this, Iyer was hit hard on the stomach. Taking a catch to dismiss Alex CareyThe incident resulted in injury to his spleen, as well as internal bleeding, which required immediate medical attention.
Doctors at Sydney Hospital immediately identified the problem and performed a minor medical procedure to stop the internal bleeding. Iyer was later taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) for observation and close monitoring.
“Shreyas Iyer is now stable and recovering. The BCCI medical team along with experts from Sydney and India are pleased with his recovery and he has been discharged from the hospital today.” BCCI’s official press release said.
The Board also expressed its gratitude to Dr. Kouroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney as well as Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India for the prompt and expert care in the management of the cricketer’s injury.
Iyer will remain in Sydney for recovery
While Iyer’s condition has improved significantly, the BCCI clarified that the 30-year-old batsman has not been cleared to travel yet. He will remain in Sydney for follow-up consultation with medical experts until he is deemed fit to return to India.
“Shreyas will continue to remain in Sydney for follow-up consultation and will return to India when deemed fit to fly.” The statement said.
The medical team will continue to monitor Iyer’s condition closely to ensure that his recovery remains stable. The decision to keep them in Australia has been made to minimize health risks during air travel and to allow uninterrupted medical observation.
Immediate medical intervention played a vital role in stabilizing Iyer’s condition. He is responding well to the treatment and has been walking and talking normally since discharge. The BCCI stressed that although the condition is serious, the recovery progress has been encouraging and no further surgical procedures are expected at this stage.
The BCCI medical staff is in constant coordination with the doctors in Sydney to ensure that Iyer’s recovery plan is in line with his long-term health and cricket commitments.
