Indian vice-captain Shreyas Iyer looked in considerable discomfort after injuring his ribs while taking a spectacular running catch, which ruled out Alex Carey and marked the beginning of Australia’s collapse. BCCI has finally revealed the status of his injury.
India is playing Australia in the last ODI and has suffered many setbacks. There are already doubts about Nitish Kumar Reddy’s participation in the upcoming T20 series in Australia, where he was the main all-rounder after Hardik Pandya was ruled out. Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has now joined the list, although he is not part of the T20I series following the end of the ODI format.
Shreyas Iyer admitted to hospital for further evaluation after rib injury
When Alex Carey was batting against Harshit Rana, he bowled a ball and the ball went towards the third man fielder, but Shreyas Iyer, standing at point, ran back after keeping his eyes on the ball. The fielder did not disappoint the Indian team as he caught the ball with perfection, but got injured in the attempt.
The BCCI has now said that Shreyas Iyer has suffered an injury to his left rib and has been taken to a hospital in Australia for further evaluation of his injury. If Shreyas is out, India will miss its vice-captain in the home series against South Africa.
