The BCCI has strongly reacted to the statement of Indian coach Gautam Gambhir criticizing the critics for unnecessary drama over the selection of Harshit Rana in the Indian team in all formats of the game.
First, Srikkanth mercilessly trolled Harshit Rana for his excessive on-field theatrics, as the youngster was blamed for focusing too much on showboating instead of focusing on bowling, and said that it cost him dearly in a match. He also claimed that Rana was being selected because he was Gambhir’s favourite.
Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that he would love to be a part of the selection meeting and try to understand the thought process of the selectors. He also mentioned that he would have cited Harshit Rana as a lower-order batsman, but also cast serious doubts on his chances.
“Target people based on their performance, and selectors exist for that job” – Gautam Gambhir
23-year-old fast bowler Harshit Rana has played two Tests in Australia and is an ICC Champions Trophy winner for India. However, he has been in the news for being criticized by Indian cricketers.
What has made the situation worse is that these criticisms have come from two former World Cup winners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kris Srikkanth. He had claimed that he could not find any reason why Rana was kept in the team.
Many times on social media he has been described as Gautam Gambhir’s ‘Lami’. Reacting to such criticism, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir looked angry as he minced no words while criticizing former cricketers for damaging the reputation of the 23-year-old player.
BCCI has supported Gautam Gambhir’s bold statement
Supporting Gambhir, BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla supported the Indian head coach and made a bold announcement saying (as quoted by ANI), “Gautam Gambhir is right. If anyone has a complaint about the players, it should be done responsibly. This will demoralize the players. It is the team’s job to select the players. So, before saying anything about the players, you should think about how much responsibility you have to take. Needed.” Take.”
Harshit was recently part of the group of players who gathered at Gautam Gambhir’s residence for a team dinner ahead of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, this player was not a part of India’s playing eleven in the two-match Test series. Rajiv Shukla also attended the dinner at Gambhir’s residence.
Harshit Rana will be important as an additional fast bowler in Australia
Another tour and Harshit Rana has once again been named in the Indian squad in all three formats of the game. Harshit Rana will be marked as an essential addition in the Australia series, especially in the ODI format, as Jasprit Bumrah has been neglected.
Arshdeep Singh may also return to the T20I XI to lead the fast bowling attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah as Hardik Pandya will not be present during the Australia T20I tour. Harshit could be paired with Mohammed Siraj in the 50-over format, as Australian tracks favor pacers.
