India begin their two-match red-ball campaign against the Proteas at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Captain Shubman Gill lost another toss and the Proteas captain decided to bat first. The Proteas team, which came to bat first, could not score more than just 159 runs in its first innings.
BCCI released Shubman Gill’s medical bulletin
Left-arm orthodox spinner Simon Harmer dismissed Washington Sundar, breaking the strong stand between opener KL Rahul and India’s new No. 3. Due to this, captain Shubman Gill came on the pitch and hit a four on his third ball.
After the boundary, Gill was seen holding his neck in pain and seeking attention from the physio. After this he went out of the field and when he came to the dressing room, he was looking very strict. Everyone was expecting his return to the field, but according to the latest statement from BCCI, he has a neck cramp and is being monitored and a decision on his return should be taken as per the progress.
“Shubman Gill has a neck strain and is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. A decision on his participation today will be taken as per his progress,” the BCCI said in an official statement.
