After losing three consecutive games at the beginning of the tournament, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has finally led the team to victory in this edition of the IPL. After the victory, Gaikwad had to pay a heavy fine on his behalf.

Chennai Super Kings had a poor start to IPL 2026 as they lost three consecutive games. The first match was a humiliating defeat against Rajasthan Royals, which was eventually followed by two more defeats to Punjab Kings and then the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

After winning their first match and securing two points in the competition, they have moved up to 9th in the IPL points table. After this, Kolkata Knight Riders remain the only team to win a single game so far in this edition of IPL.

Ruturaj Gaikwad fined for slow over-rate against DC

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has not been in the best of form in the ongoing edition of the competition as he has struggled with the bat. Gaikwad has also been criticized for being clueless on the field, especially when his bowlers have been beaten by the opposition batsmen.

This criticism is obvious as Gaikwad is leading Chennai Super Kings for the first time in the absence of his former captain MS Dhoni. Gaikwad took better control of the game against Delhi Capitals and led his team to its first win.

However, after a slow over in the match against Delhi Capitals, he has been fined a hefty amount of Rs 12 lakh under IPL rules. Since this was the team’s first offense under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations, they were fined Rs 12 lakh.
