BCCI’s strength and conditioning coach, Adrian Le Rukes said the drill has been adapted to the Indian team setup from other sports. He said that test is a training tool to improve fitness and a measurement for the players’ aerobic conditioning and monitor progress over time.
Le Rukes said, “The run we scored today are Bronco Run. It is not a new run or new measurement. It has been in various sports codes for many years and it’s just something that we have recently introduced in the team’s environment,” Le Rukes said.
“The idea is two-fold. One we can use it as a training mechanism and the other we can also use it as a measurement. So we get a good idea where the players are in terms of their aerobic fitness and if we are moving in the right direction,” he said.
It also allows the player to assess himself – Adrian Le Rukes
Adrian Le Rukes said the Bronco Test is a fitness drill that can be done anywhere. He said that it allows players to assess their own fitness level while traveling or during training.
“Okay, this is an area test. In other words, we can do it anywhere, on any grounds around the world. As we travel, we can always use it. It allows the player to sometimes assess himself. So it’s a very functional test that you can do at any place,” Le Rukes said.
Adrian Le Rukes joined as Team India’s strength and conditioning coach in June 2025
