BCCI breaks silence on Pakistan boycotting India’s match in T20 World Cup 2026

India vs Pakistan always brings excitement on and off the field. The matches over the years have produced some amazing encounters between the two countries. However, there are some tensions after the Asia Cup 2025. Now tensions with the Pakistan Cricket Board have escalated further after the delay in confirming their participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka have confirmed their presence in the major tournament.

However, despite playing the tournament, the Men in Green are set to boycott the India vs Pakistan match. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is supporting the government’s decision to boycott the game against Suryakumar Yadav. Although no official reason has been given behind this call, but ICC is looking into the matter seriously and serious action may be taken against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

No official confirmation has been sent by the PCB to the global cricket body regarding the announcement made by the Pakistan government. In an exclusive interview with CNN News18, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia commented on the ongoing rift regarding the India vs Pakistan match. He has said that the board will release an official statement soon after getting official confirmation on the following reports.

However, he has refused to comment at the moment, Devjist Saikia said, “I can’t comment till I get official information. It would not be right for me to comment on this issue. The outcome of the match can be anything, but the thing is that once we get the information, we will give our official statement on this development.”

Pakistan may face serious action against boycott

If India vs Pakistan does not happen then serious action will be taken against them. According to the rules made by the global body, a walkover is given only when a team is not present on the field at the time of the coin toss.

Except that it includes the docking of World Test Championship points, no movement in the ICC rankings, the refusal of top member nations to travel to Pakistan and finally, a ban on players’ participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

ICC issues official statement on crackdown

The ICC released an official statement, “While the ICC respects the role of governments in matters of national policy, this decision is not in the interests of the global game or the welfare of fans around the world, including the millions in Pakistan. The ICC hopes the PCB will consider the important and long-term implications for cricket in its country as it is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, of which it is a member and beneficiary.”

India vs Pakistan is a significant event in the cricket world, although the rivalry has been one-sided in all competitions in recent times. India have won 5 of the last five matches played against their arch-rivals in all competitions. Both the teams are in good form as they have won their last T20 bilateral series.
