BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla comments on India vs Pakistan U-turn: The India vs Pakistan 2026 T20 World Cup match continues after Pakistan has decided to withdraw its stance of not playing against its arch-rivals in the premier tournament. Pakistan changed its decision after long discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

On Pakistan playing India in the T20 Cricket World Cup, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla says, “I am pleased to see the outcome of the discussions initiated by the ICC representative, under the supervision of the ICC President and the deliberations of the representatives who went to Lahore to talk to the Pakistan Cricket Board as well as the Bangladesh Cricket Board.”
“This is a good solution, an amicable solution that has been found to prioritize the importance of cricket in the game. That’s what has been done. So congratulations to the ICC for taking this initiative, resolving the entire issue and bringing cricket back to the forefront. This is a great achievement as far as the ICC is concerned.”

Rajiv Shukla also thanked ICC for being the mediator, because keeping in mind the loss to the cricket world if the match is not held, ICC Vice President Imran Khawaja was acting as mediator for ICC and Pakistan Cricket Board to get the match done.
Shukla said, “So I would like to thank the ICC for this initiative and for bringing Pakistan to the table, which ultimately led to Pakistan playing in the Colombo match. This is good news for all of us and the scheduled match will take place in Colombo on February 15. Pakistan will also play. So now this World Cup will also be a big success story.”
Rajeev Shukla concluded, “As far as these talks are concerned, Bangladesh’s sentiments have also been insulted and their board has been given some relief, and they are also happy. In fact, they have appreciated the ICC’s efforts. It is a win-win situation for everyone and I am happy that the matches will take place and the World Cup will be a successful event.”
There is always off-field drama between India vs Pakistan
India vs Pakistan is the main event in any ICC event, as it generates double the revenue than any other game. The ICC and the hosts also benefit from gate sales, sponsorships and ticket sales. Therefore, it would have been a huge loss if the match had not been held on February 15 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Pakistan and India have won their respective opening matches. The Men in Green will take on the United States today, who almost pulled off an upset against the defending champions in their first match.
