BCCI confirms that India vs. Bangladesh series will be played in September 2026

The India National cricket team was set to visit Bangladesh for the three -match ODI ODI series and the three -match T20I series in August 2025.

The series would have returned Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to international cricket, as both were retired from tests and T20I and were ready to play 50 overs matches.

However, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s return plans have derailed as the India Tour of Bangladesh 2025 has been re -determined, and now the series will be played in September 2026.

The BCCI said in an official statement, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) have expressed mutual consensus at the White-Ball Series, Three Odis and Three Twenty20 internationally from August 2025 to September 2026 between Bangladesh and India.

In an official statement, the Control Board for Cricket in India said that the decision to postpone the series was made after discussing between the two boards and keeping in mind the international cricket commitments and scheduling facilities.

The BCCI said, “This decision after discussion between the two boards, taking into account the international cricket commitments and the scheduling facility of both teams,” said the BCCI.

“BCB is ready to welcome India in September 2026 for this curiosity series. The revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in the appointed time.”

Government of India denied permission for visiting Bangladesh

Although the Control Board for Cricket in India cited the scheduleing facility for international cricket commitments and adjournment of series, a news18 journalist revealed that the Indian government denied permission to visit Bangladesh due to security concerns.

News18 journalist wrote on X, “Between the upheavals in Bangladesh, @BCCI has announced that the scheduled visit of Team India has been postponed in 2026. Sources indicate that the Indian government had advised the Bangladesh team’s visit to Bangladesh’s team, citing prevalent security concerns.”

In addition, a PTI journalist said that India will visit Bangladesh in 2026 after the general elections in the country and there is no political instability.

PTI journalist wrote on X, “When it has been postponed by September 2026, India will visit only after conducting its general elections and is a stable government in taking care of law and order situation,” PTI journalist has written on X.
