In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned video analyst Raja Reddy, who is accused of having ‘corrupt contact’ with Andhra player Girinath Reddy ahead of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. BCCI ombudsman and former Supreme Court judge Arun Kumar Mishra ordered a ban on video analyst Raja Reddy.
The move against Reddy came into the public domain in the form of an official release. According to official statements, Dheeraj Malhotra, manager of the anti-corruption unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, investigated the matter before filing the final report to the Ombudsman. Based on the final report, Arun Kumar Mishra was ordered to ban Reddy.
Why did BCCI Ombudsman ban video analyst Raja Reddy?
A part of the official release reads, “Shri Girinath Reddy, a cricketer of Andhra Cricket Association, reported corrupt approaches made to him by the respondent in respect of the quarter final match of the Ranji Trophy tournament, which was to be played between the teams representing Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore from 23.02.2024 to 26.02.2024.”
“The player immediately reported the matter first to his team manager, namely Mr. Jugal Kishore. Both the player and the team manager immediately reported the incident to the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the BCCI, which investigated the same under the provisions of the Act.”
