The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has written an official letter to the BCCI, citing the historical relationship between the two boards. However, BCCI does not intend to take any decision without instructions from its central government.

The major dispute between India and Bangladesh after the IPL mini-auction in December 2025 turned from a political war to a clash between the two boards. Despite concerns, Mustafizur Rahman was selected by Kolkata Knight Riders. However, following BCCI instructions the franchise had to release the player.

The directive was issued in the wake of rising political tensions in India as people protested against the purchase of the Bangladeshi cricketer following atrocities on Hindus in the neighboring country. The BCB responded to this move by refusing to travel to India for the ICC T20 World Cup.

BCB writes to BCCI to revive cricket ties with India

After Bangladesh refused to travel to India for the ICC T20 World Cup, he cited security concerns as one of the biggest issues and also demanded a change in the venue. Despite several attempts at assurance by the ICC and BCCI, the BCB refused to send its team.

During the tenure of the Mohammad Yunus-led interim government in Bangladesh, relations between the two countries deteriorated further, as well as between the two cricket boards.

However, after the appointment of the newly elected government in Bangladesh, Sports Minister Nazmul Haq had initiated efforts to restore its cricket ties with the country.

Citing the historical ties between the two countries, the BCB has formally written to the BCCI to resume their cricket ties, reports Dainik Jagran. There has also been discussion about Bangladesh’s possible tour of India.

Will India never travel to Bangladesh after the T20 World Cup failure?

Last year, in 2025, India was scheduled to play a long white-ball series against Bangladesh. The Men in Blue were scheduled to travel to Bangladesh in September 2025 for a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.

However, BCCI had postponed the series citing the team’s increasing workload and busy international schedule. However, the tension between the two countries and the safety of the cricketers could be the real reason behind this.

There is a possibility of cancellation of this tour citing the ongoing tension between the relations between the two countries and the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh, on the other hand, is likely to host the next edition of the Asia Cup, and if India refuses to travel, the tournament will have to be shifted to a neutral venue like Dubai or Sri Lanka.

Jay Shah did not impose any ban on Bangladesh after its exit from T20 World Cup

After the ICC boycotted Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup, several cricket boards, especially the BCB and PCB, had claimed that the Jay Shah-led international committee was biased towards particular boards.

However, former BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who now serves as the ICC president, has been fair in his methods. He did not ask BCB to withdraw his team; This was entirely a decision taken by the Bangladesh Board. The ICC apparently cited logistical challenges in meeting BCB’s demands.

However, the ICC can rule against BCB and impose sanctions for violating the declared international schedule. However, Jay Shah did not impose any sporting or administrative sanctions on Bangladesh and instead assured future hosting opportunities.
