After the postponement of the Bangladesh tour, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday (28 November) announced a new series for India next month. Recently, India’s scheduled white-ball matches against Bangladesh were postponed due to political tensions between the two countries.
India and Bangladesh were to play three ODIs and as many T20 matches against Bangladesh in December. Now, the BCCI has decided to utilize this vacant window with a five-match T20I series against another Asian side β Sri Lanka.
India will host Sri Lanka in a five-match T20 series next month
After winning the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on home soil, the Indian women’s cricket team is all set to bounce back with a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka Women next month.
On Friday, the BCCI said in a media release, “The BCCI has announced the schedule of the upcoming IDFC First Bank Women’s T20I series as India will host Sri Lanka for a five-match competition next month. The series will begin in Visakhapatnam before moving to Thiruvananthapuram for the remaining fixtures.”

The Indian women’s cricket team is preparing for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a power-packed T20 series against Sri Lanka. The T20I series is scheduled to begin on December 21 at the beautiful Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
The picturesque venue will also host the second match on December 23. After the Vizag leg ends, both teams will shift to Thiruvananthapuram, where the final three T20 matches will be played at the Greenfield Stadium on December 26, 28 and 30.
India’s road to T20 World Cup 2026 begins with Sri Lanka series
The Indian Women’s Selection Committee is going to announce the Indian team next week. After winning the ODI World Cup on home soil, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s cricket team now has high hopes of repeating their glory at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in June-July.
This series gives the Indian players much-needed match time before the next season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, which will be followed by the much-awaited tour of Australia early next year. India will play three ODIs, one Test and three T20 matches in Australia in February-March.
And then, they will travel to England in May-June for three T20Is and one Test. Well, India’s last T20 World Cup campaign in 2024 ended painfully in the first round after tough defeats to New Zealand and Australia.

But the team has since rebuilt strongly, claiming consecutive series wins over the West Indies (2-1) and England (3-2), and have now also won a historic World Cup.
