The Bangladesh Cricket Board has responded to claims that the International Cricket Council has rejected Bangladesh’s request to shift its T20 World Cup matches out of India. Notably, the BCB described the ESPN Cricinfo report as false and misleading, and said that there was no ultimatum in the ICC communication.
BCB asked ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches for T20 World Cup 2026 out of India. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the ICC discussed the issue in a virtual meeting and rejected the request. The ICC has told Bangladesh that they will have to travel to India to take part in the competition or risk losing points, the report said.
BCB breaks silence on ICC’s ultimatum of ‘Play in India or forfeit points’
The BCB said it has received official communication from the ICC regarding Bangladesh’s security concerns about playing in India. According to the BCB, the ICC has not issued any threats regarding forfeiture of points and has assured that the concerns will be taken seriously and incorporated into the detailed security plan.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received a response from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the Board’s expressed concerns over the security of the Bangladesh national cricket team in India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, including the request for relocation of the team’s matches,” the statement said.
“In its communication, the ICC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the full and uninterrupted participation of the Bangladesh team in the tournament. The ICC expressed its desire to work closely with the BCB to address the concerns raised and assured that the Board’s input will be welcomed and considered as part of the detailed security plan for the event.”
