BBL controversy broke out in the final! Joel Davis recalled from the dugout after Cooper Connolly’s catch was declared illegal

After a month of exciting cricket action in Australia, the final of BBL Season 15 has arrived. The Sydney Sixers are a strong franchise with the return of some of their experienced stars, while the other finalists Perth Scorchers have some bright young talent. Amidst all this, a strange incident created a stir in the BBL final.

The Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers have not had the best starts to the Big Bash season, but have since climbed the ladder, with the Scorchers topping the points table, followed by the Sydney Sixers.

The Sixers’ campaign was revived by the addition of their international stars; However, the Scorchers dominated the Sixers in the knockout games. The Sixers lost the qualifiers but then defeated the Hobart Hurricanes in the Challenger to qualify for the finals.

Strange incident happened with Sydney Sixers batsman in BBL 15 finale

The 15th edition of BBL has come to an end with the Big Bash League, whose final match will be played today at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Optus Stadium was selected as the venue for the final after the Perth Scorchers won the qualifiers.

A strange incident happened during the batting innings of Sydney Sixers when lower-order batsman Joel Davis was at the crease. This was the second ball of the 18th over of the innings and Davis flicked a ball well towards the deep mid-wicket boundary.

Connolly made a full run to his wrong end and took a brilliant catch diving to his right. He was too far from the rope and the on-field umpire declared the batsman out. However, as Davis walked off the field, he was recalled as it was noted that he had ground the ball with his fingers, not under the ball, and hence, the ball had touched the turf.

It was considered not out and the batsman was called to bat again. However, he was out on the very first ball of the next over.

Steve Smith misses half-century in BBL final

Australian batting legend Steve Smith returns to play for Sydney Sixers after the end of the Ashes in the 2025-26 season. Smith led them to victory in three matches, while he finished the series with a brilliant century.

Steve Smith made a comeback from the match against Hurricanes, when he came out to open the innings for the first time with Babar Azam. The match was abandoned due to excessive rain and Smith remained not out on 19*.

In the next match, he scored his fourth BBL century, making him the player with the most BBL centuries. He completed his century in just 41 balls in the match against Sydney Thunder. He then continued to play some good hands for the Sixers with two more half-centuries in three innings.

He scored 275 runs in 5 innings for the Sixers, averaging 68.75 with one century and two half-centuries. However, in the BBL final, Smith was caught in front of three stumps after scoring 24 runs from 13 balls.

Perth Scorchers are chasing their sixth BBL title on the low-scoring track of Optus Stadium

Five-time BBL-winning champions Perth Scorchers are the most successful team in the history of the Big Bash League. They are now chasing their sixth title in this edition of the BBL. Sydney Sixers are the second most successful team while chasing their fourth target.

Chasing a low score of 133, the way the Scorchers have made a great start with their captain Mitchell Marsh and Finn Allen, it looks like the Scorchers are very close to their sixth title in the competition. However, Optus has been the field of tough fights.
