The brief exchange showed the deep respect, comfort and friendship between them, built over many years of playing together for India and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
During the friendly moment, Suryakumar was seen asking Rohit for quick advice on what decision to take at the toss. Interestingly, while making Suryakumar laugh before the toss at the Wankhede Stadium, Rohit also gave a suggestion to the current captain in his own style.
Here’s how that moment unfolded:
Suryakumar Yadav hugged Rohit Sharma and asked, “Jaldi bolo, batting karu ya fielding karu? (Tell me quickly, should I bat first or fielding first?)”. Then Rohit laughed and said, “Do fielding…are you crazy!!”
The clip of this emotional and heart-touching conversation between Rohit and Suryakumar quickly went viral on social media. Notably, Rohit is the brand ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2026 and he was present at the Wankhede Stadium to launch the tournament in India.
Rohit’s emotional message for the players as he got emotional watching India from the sidelines
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma was filled with emotions while looking at the Indian dressing room from the field. Standing outside instead of being with the team as the brand ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2026 felt strange and emotional for the Hitman.
Looking towards the balcony of the dressing room, an emotional Rohit said, “It feels strange here. It feels strange from there to here.”
Furthermore, Rohit opined that players often get so busy with pressure and responsibility that they forget to enjoy the moment, he suggested that every player enjoy every bit of the time, because such moments never come back.

Rohit Sharma becomes emotional while standing with ICC officials
Being away from the Indian cricket team had an emotional impact on Rohit. Instead of wearing the India jersey, he stood alongside the ICC match officials as the tournament ambassador, which was a really emotional and different thing for him to experience for the first time.
He signed off by saying, “It’s a very emotional feeling because I’m still not used to it, being on this side of the field instead of being on the other side of the field. For once, I felt like there were no nerves in my body. What an amazing feeling it is to stand there and sing the national anthem. It feels very different and emotional.”
