Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali issued a big statement during an online discussion session. He said that those who suggest the team to score 60 runs in 10 overs will be shot.
Basit Ali’s controversial comments came after Pakistan’s disappointing defeat in the first ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh in Dhaka on March 11. Bangladesh won the 50 over match by defeating the opposition team by 8 wickets in the 16th over of the second innings itself.
PCB picked a group of uncapped cricketers to face in the series against Bangladesh
Amid the poor performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took several important decisions ahead of the trip to Bangladesh. He shaped his ODI team with several uncapped players, removing some of his star cricketers like Babar Azam, in order to provide a new look and new hope to the team.
With the combination of several uncapped and emerging cricketers, a section of cricket fans expected to see an encouraging performance from the team against Bangladesh. What actually happened at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium was beyond expectations – Pakistan were bundled out for just 114 runs in their 50-over innings. He lost his last wicket on the first ball of the 31st over. Bangladesh did not face any notable hurdles while chasing the modest target.
Only a few batsmen got something to talk about
Sahibzada Farhan, who was in great form in the T20 World Cup 2026, was the second highest run-scorer for the touring team with 27 runs in 38 balls. Faheem Ashraf’s 37 out of 47 was the highest individual effort for the team.
The Shaheen Afridi-led team got off to a really good start. He got 47 runs for the opening stand. Farhan’s departure proved costly for the team. As the openers retreated, the batting order collapsed.
Former international batsman Basit Ali blamed the entire team’s tactics for their very disappointing performance against Bangladesh. He claimed that those who asked the batsmen to score 60 runs in 10 overs should be eliminated. Another former cricketer Kamran Akmal also participated in the online discussion panel.
“Before talking about new players and experienced players, let’s talk about those who asked the team to score 60 runs in 10 overs. Those who asked the batsmen to score sixty runs in ten overs should be shot. They will never come forward; they have never played cricket in their lives. First of all, they needed to take a decision before the toss. The opening partnership was the best part of our batting”, said Basit Ali.
