Bangladesh women’s team fast bowler Jahanara Alam has made another shocking revelation, claiming that she received indecent proposals from the team management during the 2022 World Cup. This has shaken BCB and damaged its reputation across the world.

Cricketers suffering from sexual harassment have shaken the cricket world. Australian cricketer Ash Gardner faced a similar situation during the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup. Bangladeshi cricketer Jahanara Alam has accused her national team management of sexual harassment.

The Bangladeshi fast bowler took a break from international cricket citing mental health concerns and is currently living in Australia. She was not part of the ICC Women’s World Cup squad for Bangladesh in 2025.

Jahanara Alam has accused senior BCB officials of sexual harassment

Jahanara Alam accused the Bangladesh team management of sexual harassment during the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup campaign. She has accused former women’s selector and manager Manjurul Islam of not allowing her to shine at the national level as she did not accept his indecent proposals.

“I faced the (indecent proposal) not once but many times,” Jahanara was quoted as saying on The Riyasat Azim YouTube channel on Thursday. Of course, when we are involved with the team, we cannot talk about many things, even if we want to. When it comes to your bread and butter, and even better, when you are known by a few people, you cannot say no or protest against many things even if you want to.

“Look, after all, cricket is my family, and I will definitely speak up. I will speak up so that maybe 10 more girls will want to return safely, like I came back safely. Maybe 10 girls will think, ‘It’s not necessary, let everyone do what they want to do,’ but the world is made of good and bad, right? I want a beautiful environment for those 10 girls, and at least for them to play cricket safely in a safe environment. I want.”

Bangladesh star points out an indecent proposal of late Tauheed Mahmood

Surprisingly, he also pointed the finger at the late Tauheed Mahmood and claimed that he had not contacted him directly but through Sarfaraz Babu, a BCB employee. She alleged that the BCB chief paid no attention to her claims and that former women’s committee chief Nadel Chowdhury could not stop Manjurul from harassing her.

“In 2021, Tauheed Bhai contacted me through Babu Bhai (coordinator Sarfaraz Babu). I have said this at many places. Why he misbehaved with me, I don’t know. I tried very hard to suppress it and play good cricket. But when I technically avoided it, Manju Bhai started abusing, humiliating and insulting me from the next day. And I was really not used to this kind of insult,” Jahanara said.

He further said, “Tawheed Bhai never contacted me directly; he used Babu Bhai to contact me. And when after a year and a half I gave my letter to the CEO, I called it ‘observation letter’.”

“After this, I got a second offer from Manju Bhai during the 2022 World Cup. I felt like I needed to inform the BCB about the incidents that happened to me in the last one and a half years. Who should I inform?”

He said, “Nadel sir is the head of my cricket family, I informed him many times in the last one and a half year in various ways. He will provide a temporary solution and Manju Bhai will be fine after another day or two. I also informed the CEO sir.”

The accused persons deny such claims; BCB prompts investigation when necessary

After Cricbuzz contacted Manjurul, he dismissed all such allegations as baseless and said, “What can I say other than terming it baseless?” Manzoorul told Cricbuzz, who is currently in China. “You can ask other cricketers whether I was good or bad.”

Former BCB official Sarfaraz Babu also said that cricketers are just creating stories without any proof and there is no truth behind it. He termed those claims as baseless allegations and he will continue to work in the women’s wing of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Bangladeshi officials said they are well aware of the development and will investigate if necessary. “The allegations are quite serious, and so we have to sit down and decide what our next action should be, and if needed, we will definitely investigate,” BCB vice-president Shakhawat Hussain told Cricbuzz.
