The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wants to restore ties with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the T20 World Cup 2026. Following the resolution between the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), BCB President Aminul Islam has expressed his intention to “break peace” with the BCCI.

Bangladesh pulled out of the T20 World Cup citing security concerns after the ICC rejected their request to shift the matches away from India. This decision was taken through vote in the ICC meeting, after which Bangladesh did not participate in the tournament. Scotland was brought in as his replacement.

Following a subsequent meeting in Lahore, the ICC confirmed that Bangladesh will not face any sanctions for boycotting the T20 World Cup 2026. It was also agreed that Bangladesh would be awarded hosting rights for the ICC tournament sometime between 2028 and 2031.

Bangladesh considering “breaking the ice” with BCCI during India vs Pakistan clash in Colombo

Aminul Islam said the ICC has planned a joint meeting involving the five Asian cricket boards during the India-Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup. The BCB said this is an opportunity to start talks and reduce tensions, calling it an ice-breaking move with the BCCI.

“The ICC has taken a decision. The key stakeholders of the ICC are these five Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan) and for the India-Pakistan match on the 15th in the World Cup, they want representatives of all the five Asian countries to be present on the field together, watch the match together and talk to each other,” Aminul was quoted as saying in leading Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo on Wednesday.

“You can think of it as something (an ice breaker between us),” he said.

We will also make an agreement – Aminul Islam

Aminul Islam said the board could draft a detailed memorandum of understanding to ensure that all decisions are clearly recorded. He said the agreement would be written out line by line to avoid confusion later.

“We will also make an agreement. This agreement will be line by line, an MOU-type [Memorandum of Understanding] Documents, so that there is no uncertainty,” Aminul said.

Similar discussions with ICC have more or less been finalized – Aminul Islam

The BCB president said a similar situation was handled by drafting a memorandum of understanding during the Asian Cricket Council’s annual general meeting in Dhaka to prevent any party from walking away from the agreed terms.

Aminul said, “You know that earlier when we held the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting in Dhaka, a similar issue was raised. There too, we had prepared an MOU-type document so that no one could deviate from the contract in any way.”

“Similar discussions (regarding drafting of the MoU) with the ICC have more or less been finalized,” he said.
