Bangladesh T20 World Cup squad: The Bangladesh Cricket Board has unveiled the squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February-March. Wicketkeeper Liton Das has been appointed captain and Mohammad Saif Hasan as vice-captain for the tournament.
There are reports that Bangladesh may refuse to come to India for the World Cup. Bangladesh’s matches are scheduled to be held in Kolkata, but the team is reportedly not ready to play in India. Bangladesh Sports Minister Asif Nazrul has contacted ICC and requested to move Bangladesh’s matches out of India.
Liton Das appointed Bangladesh captain for T20 World Cup 2026
Bangladesh will enter the T20 World Cup under the leadership of Liton Das in India and Sri Lanka. The team has selected a balanced and competitive squad and will look to take advantage of the familiar conditions of the subcontinent.
The bowling attack will play an important role in Bangladesh’s plans. Experienced fast bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed will lead the fast bowling unit. Spinners Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hussain are expected to play important roles on slow and turning pitches.
In the batting department, Bangladesh will rely heavily on Liton Das to carry the innings. The top order Tanzeed Hasan and Pervez Hossain Emon will look to provide quick starts and attacking intent while providing a solid platform to the middle order.

Big names missing as Bangladesh face tough group in T20 World Cup 2026
Some big names are missing from the team. Test captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who has been in good form in the Bangladesh Premier League, and Jaker Ali Anik, who recently led the team to a series win against Afghanistan, are absent from the squad.
Bangladesh is still in search of its first T20 World Cup title. They have played in every edition so far but have never reached the semi-finals or advanced further in the tournament.
The challenge will once again be difficult. Bangladesh has been placed in Group C along with England, West Indies, Nepal and Italy. Only two teams from the group will qualify for the Super 8s, leaving no margin for error.
As per the current schedule, Bangladesh will play all four of its group matches in India. They will play three matches in Kolkata, with the opening match against West Indies at the Eden Gardens on February 7, while one match will be played in Mumbai.
Since Sri Lanka has been named co-host and Pakistan will play all its matches there, the ICC may also consider shifting the Bangladesh schedule. Bangladesh last toured India in mid-2024 for a Test and T20 series, but uncertainty now hangs over their World Cup plans.
