Following multiple reports claiming that tensions are rising among Bangladesh players over their fate in the ICC T20 World Cup, the Sports Advisor to the Bangladesh government, in conjunction with the BCB, announced a meeting with the national players on the issue of the ICC T20 World Cup.

BCB’s issues have escalated to such an extent that the board is probably on the verge of withdrawing from the ICC event, but has not yet decided to join the competition, setting aside their demands.

BCB’s demand was nothing but swapping of venues from India to Sri Lanka, which when rejected by the BCCI, led them to submit a fresh claim where they sought swapping of groups with Team Ireland, which has all its matches in Sri Lanka. However, ICC has said that no change is possible in the announced schedule.

Bangladesh government called Bangladesh players for a meeting

A report in Cricbuzz has revealed that Asif Nazrul, Sports Advisor to the Bangladesh government, had called a meeting with the BCB and Bangladesh national team players to brief them about the current situation regarding participation in the ICC T20 World Cup.

The Bangladesh government had taken this step citing the increasing tension among Bangladesh players regarding participation in the World Cup, about which captain Liton Kumar Das had also talked.

The players have been asked to attend the meeting to be held at Hotel Intercontinental from 3 pm onwards as the government seeks to brief them about their status regarding national team participation.

Five Bangladeshi cricketers will ignore government’s call for meeting

The meeting has been scheduled to not only let the players know about the government’s or BCB’s version of events ahead of the T20 World Cup, but will also allow them to present their viewpoints on the current issue.

Nazrul Asif will listen to the opinion of Bangladesh players regarding participation or withdrawal from the T20 World Cup. He will also discuss several solutions to resolve this issue.

However, the latest RevSportz report claims that around 5 players will not attend the meeting between the players, BCB and Bangladesh government representative.

“Who wouldn’t want to play the World Cup as a player?” -Bangladesh all-rounder Sheikh Mahedi Hasan

Bangladesh all-rounder Sheikh Mahedi Hasan on Tuesday confirmed that they have all been called for such a meeting, which will be chaired by Bangladesh’s sports advisor. However, they complained that they had no chance to discuss, as they were all informed separately by the BCB.

Mahedi said, “No, there was no such conversation (among themselves), because every player of the World Cup team was individually messaged for the meeting. When we reach there, the secret will be revealed.” “They are our guardians and as players I think we have to do what they say,” he said.
