The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to launch a new domestic T20 competition during the T20 World Cup 2026 window. Notably, the board has also decided to remove the A+ category from the upcoming men’s central contract list, citing the limited number of cricketers who have played consistently across all formats.

Scotland replaced Bangladesh at the World Cup after the BCB refused to send its men’s team to India due to security concerns. BCB discussed several times with the ICC and asked to shift its matches to Sri Lanka, but the request was not accepted. Bangladesh was ready to play all its matches in India.

BCB to launch Odomo Bangladesh T20 Cup during 2026 T20 World Cup window

According to Cricbuzz, BCB will organize a T20 tournament called Odomo Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026. The competition will be played from 5 to 9 February and will feature three teams: Comet XI, Darbar XI and Duronto XI.

Bangladesh T20 captain Liton Kumar Das will lead the Comet XI, while Nazmul Hossain will captain the Shanto Darbar XI and Akbar Ali will lead the Duronto XI. Many players, including Liton, were reportedly unhappy with the decision not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup.

A total prize money of Taka 2.5 crore (Rs 1.87 crore) and player fees will be given in the tournament. Notably, the event will also make use of the Impact Player rule popular in the Indian Premier League.

Cricbuzz quoted a BCB official as saying, “We will also pay the match fees among other things. We are hoping to announce a good amount as prize money and all these efforts are being made to ensure that the tournament is competitive.”

BCB set to remove A+ category from men’s central contract list

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has made changes to its central contract structure by removing the A+ category for 2026. Notably, BCB’s Cricket Steering Committee has shortlisted 27 cricketers for inclusion in the men’s central contract list for 2026.

“There is no A+ category in our central contract this year,” confirmed a BCB official involved in the process. “None of our cricketers are currently playing all three formats regularly, which was one of the pre-conditions We have prepared a list of 27 cricketers to get into the A+ bracket of central contracts and are now waiting for the final approval from the Board.
