Bangladesh has officially demanded the participation of Smriti Mandhana and other Indian cricketers in the women’s BPL.

After several attempts, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is finally on its way to hosting its inaugural edition of the Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL). Despite the recent differences ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, the country’s cricket authority continues to keep the doors open for cricketers from around the world, including Indian cricketers.

As per Cricbuzz report, the inaugural edition of the WBPL is scheduled to be held from April 4 to April 14, featuring three teams. The first match of the league will be in Chattogram and the last match will be in Dhaka.

Official announcements regarding the inaugural season of Women’s BPL

The BCB made the official announcement on Wednesday after holding its first coordination meeting regarding the tournament at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. BCB and WBPL Governing Council women’s chairperson Rubaba Dowla said they would happily welcome Indian cricketers to the tournament.

“Many international players have already shown interest. Teams will then contact the players and finalize the recruitment. Some famous star players have expressed interest,” Rubaba told reporters.

Will Indian cricketers be allowed to participate in the tournament?

Will they allow Indian cricketers to participate in the league? In response to a specific question, he said that there will be no hindrance for players from any country. If teams in the league expressed interest in a specific player, they would be free to form a relationship.

“We are open to all. There are no country-specific restrictions. Whoever shows interest, and whichever teams want to bring in such players, can do so. It is open to all, so we will see,” Rubaba told PTI.

To make the inaugural edition of Women’s BPL successful, officials are making every possible effort by holding meetings regarding preparations. The final result will come out with the cooperation of the Governing Council and the Working Committee.

All the arrangements for women BPL are currently going on. We are holding regular meetings. “The Governing Council and the Working Committee are working together to plan how to best execute the tournament.”

Initial rift between the two neighboring countries

It is noteworthy that BCB officials had turned against India and the International Cricket Council (ICC) after Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from IPL 2026 amid geopolitical tensions. As per BCCI instructions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had to release the Bangladesh fast bowler.

In protest, BCB officials refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026. Because they stuck to their decision, the ICC expelled the Bangladesh cricket team from the tournament. The drama ahead of the major tournament has resulted in a fresh, heated situation between the two neighboring countries, India and Bangladesh.

Now after the general elections in Bangladesh, the situation seems to be getting better. BCB officials may make some efforts to build relations with BCCI.
