Bangladesh vs Australia 1st ODI has just concluded at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka, with Mehdi Hasan Miraz’s side creating history by scoring 86 runs (DLS) method as the match was stopped around 42.2 overs when the home team needed just one wicket to win to create history and go 1-0 up in the three-match series.

After this victory, Bangladesh created a record by defeating Australia in an ODI match after 21 years. Australia captain Josh Inglis won the toss and decided to bowl first. They were still without their regular captain Mitchell Marsh, and Australia’s third-string side is on a white-ball tour to Bangladesh.

Mossadeq Hossain is in a strong position for Bangladesh

Bangladesh had a very bad start in the match and lost opener Saif Hasan for just 5 runs. Nazmul Hossain Shanto was then given a lifeline by Marnus Labuschagne on 9, and this turned the tide in favor of the home team, as Shanto made 67 and shared a 96-run partnership with Tanzeed Hasan, who made 54.

Tauhid Hridoy and Mosaddek Hossain then put on a 75-run partnership as Mosaddek was out for 31, but Mosaddek played a brilliant inning of 86* and helped the team post a good total of 284/8 in 50 overs, with Taskin Ahmed contributing with the bat and scoring 20 runs.

Australia had no answer to Nahid Rana’s bowling.

Chasing the target of 285 runs, the Australian team lost the wicket of Matt Short on the very first ball of the second innings, due to which its streak of low scores continues. Labuschagne’s poor form continued as the experienced batsman was out early for just one run. The Australian team was at 2/2 within the first two overs.

Cooper Connolly did his best to score runs as the southpaw was out for 35, while Inglis remained at the crease for too long, being out for 19. Australia were on the back foot at 91/4. Alex Carey and Cameron Green then made a short partnership of 37 runs, before Cameron was out for 47.

Green was the only player to score a half-century as he remained unbeaten on 52. After Carey’s wicket, no batsman could cross the double figures and Australia could only score 191/9 runs in 42.2 overs. Just then the rain came and the home team won as they defeated Australia for the first time in a home ODI. Nahid Rana took four wickets as he was showing enthusiasm in the game.

Quite disappointing- Josh Inglis after the defeat against Bangladesh

After the match, Josh Inglis said, “Quite disappointing from our side, we dropped three or four catches. Around 230-240, I thought it was achievable. Nathan was excellent in all three phases. He used his variations and was brilliant throughout.”

“The discussion was on playing cricketing shots. The pitch was good, but we lost early wickets, nobody scored big and we did not build partnerships. We have just looked at the conditions, today is not very good, but we have another chance in a few days.”
