Star all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraj, star batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto and talented batsman Saif Hasan have been named as vice-captains in Test, ODI and T20I cricket respectively.

These appointments are quite strange as Nazmul Hossain Shanto is the Test captain and Mehdi Hasan Miraj will be his deputy, but things will be completely opposite in the ODI format.

Mehdi Hasan Miraz was appointed as the ODI captain for one year, and will be replaced by Nazmul Hossain Shanto as his deputy, who is set to continue as Test captain in the ongoing cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.

Talking about the T20 team, Liton Das is the captain and star opening batsman Saif Hasan will be his deputy. It is noteworthy that after getting a place in the team, Saif Hasan is looking in tremendous form in T20 cricket.

Why did Saif Hasan get T20I captaincy?

Saif Hasan has played just 18 matches for the Bangladesh national cricket team in T20I cricket, but he has impressed the selection committee with his stellar performances.

In those matches, he has scored 396 runs at an average of 28.28 and a strike rate of 121.84, and has provided good starts to the Bangla Tigers in most of the matches.

He will also have the opportunity to take over as the full-time captain as Liton Das has only been named as the T20I captain till the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

“Consistent and impressive performances for Bangladesh in the shortest format have led to the promotion of Saif Hasan as vice-captain of the T20 team. Liton Kumar Das has been entrusted with the leadership of the team until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026,” the BCB said in a statement.

Abdur Razzaq replaces Khalid Mashud as High Performance chairman

Apart from the vice-captaincy appointments, BCB has made some changes in the setup. As per Cricbuzz report, he appointed Rubaba Daula as the chairperson of the women’s wing and she replaces Abdur Razzaq Raz, who will continue to contribute to the department in the role of vice-chairperson.

Furthermore, Abdur Razzaq is set to be appointed as the Chairman of High Performance replacing Khalid Mashud, who will succeed BCB Chairman Aminul Islam as the chairman of the ground.

Meanwhile, following Jahanara Alam’s shocking allegations, the BCB has decided to hold a gender-sensitivity training session at the National Cricket Academy building at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
