Pakistan wicketkeeper batsman Azam Khan has shared his opinion on Suryakumar Yadav’s views on the declining importance of the India-Pakistan rivalry. Although his views appear honest and based on recent statistics, he may have welcomed the rivalry with his own team after these comments.
The dispute between India and Pakistan remained a storyline throughout the men’s Asia Cup 2025 competition. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is not known to be active on the field, also got involved in the controversy with an inflammatory comment in the press conference.
India faced arch-rivals Pakistan thrice in the Asia Cup 2025, first in the group stage, then in the Super-4 and finally in the final, and the Men in Blue registered a strategic and comfortable victory each time.
During the second win between India and Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup, Suryakumar Yadav claimed that questions should not be asked on any rivalry between India and Pakistan now. Suryakumar Yadav had further claimed that if both the teams had played 15-20 matches and the results had been a shared 7-all or 8-7, then it would have been considered a rivalry.
Pakistan vs India stats reach 13-0 or 10-1, and as per his comments, it is not a rivalry but one-sided dominance. Pakistani cricketer Azam Khan, son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, has supported Suryakumar Yadav’s claim.
“If you watch ICC tournaments, I think… I don’t know if I should say this or not, but technically he is right,” Moeen Khan’s son said in a podcast with Cricwick. He acknowledged that the rivalry no longer holds the edge it used to.
Azam Khan last played for Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
27-year-old Pakistani cricketer Azam Khan played as the first choice wicketkeeper in the team. He has represented Pakistan in 14 T20I games, and last played for them in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
His father and former Pakistani cricketer Moeen Khan had also criticized the selectors for not giving Azam consistent chances in the playing eleven. “I watched the entire World Cup and the matches before that and it felt like Azam was the number one choice for wicketkeeping and batting,” Moeen told Cricket Pakistan.
“Then suddenly, after just one match, the whole strategy changed,” leaving the former captain guessing. Pakistan was eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup and then in the domestic Champions Trophy without winning a game.
Azam Khan accused one of his colleagues of leaking dressing room information
The young Pakistani batsman had told during a podcast that there are players within the Pakistan team who have very good friendship with journalists and he has accused them of revealing team information and playing eleven.
He also said that there is a lack of unity in the Pakistan team and such players who leak information can be considered traitors and a threat to their country, which could lead to their central contracts being cancelled.
