The Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is doing something unexpected to strengthen the players’ contract system from the upcoming cycle. The board will hand over new contracts to the players as soon as the current contract ends.

Traditionally, there are different grades for players under central contract. The players’ gradation and some other details of their contracts were in the public domain. PCB is fully prepared to change this tradition.

Important details of players’ contracts will remain secret

As per the latest update, the contract between the player and the board will remain confidential, and nothing will be published in the public domain. Earlier, cricket fans could easily know which player was contracted for which category.

From now on, all this information will remain secret. Geo TV network correspondent Sohail Imran claimed on ‘X’, “Central contract: The PCB document clearly states that they will not declare whether a player is in Track A or any other track.”

He said, “Basically, this means that the public cannot know whether a player has been contracted as a Test specialist, a Test and ODI player, a white-ball player, or a T20 specialist. The number of players contracted for these categories will also not be disclosed.”

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi himself hinted at change

The PCB Chief himself has indicated some changes. Mohsin Naqvi told journalists that the player will be selected for the central contract on the basis of his fitness and performance.

According to Naqvi, a player can retain his contract only if he proves himself through his performance and his fitness standards. He also claimed that most contracts would be finalized by computers to end the debate over classification of cricketers.

Mohsin Naqvi said, “Earlier there used to be debate on central contracts as to why someone gets B and why someone gets C. Now, 85% of central contracts have gone into the hands of computers.”

He further said, “The players’ contracts will be renewed only if they meet all the required performance and fitness standards.”

Naqvi explains why he is considering changes

In recent times, the Pakistan national cricket team failed to put up any significant performances. Be it the Asia Cup or the T20 World Cup 2026, they went into the tournament with a lot of promises but returned empty handed. This was repeated again and again. The team’s performance against Bangladesh was also disappointing.

Naqvi informed that he is bringing changes in the central contract systems with the aim of improving the performance of the team. He expects better performance from the cricketers in future.

“It is entirely our responsibility to improve cricket. Our cricket team’s performance improves in series, but in tournaments our team collapses. This is what is being worked on now,” the PCB chief told reporters during a press conference to explain his plan.
