Babar Azam was one of the biggest talking points of the Big Bash League (BBL) after he was signed by Sydney Sixers for the 2025-26 season. However, Babar Azam failed to live up to the hype and was trolled by the organizers themselves after his flop BBL debut.

With his reputation as one of Pakistan’s top batsmen, expectations were naturally high when Babar came on for the Sydney Sixers against the Perth Scorchers at the Perth Stadium in Perth on Sunday, December 14. Notably, rain restricted the Big Bash League 2025–26 competition to 11 overs of play.

Babar Azam failed to make a splash in BBL debut

Well, the much-awaited debut of the former Pakistan captain was not what he or his fans expected. Babar had to struggle to settle down at the crease. He looked cautious from the start and took time to get used to the pace and bounce of the Optus Stadium.

Even Babar had a lucky moment when the ball fell safely between mid-on and mid-wicket, giving him a brief lifeline. That migration could not last long. After finally opening his account by pushing the ball over the infield, he fell to the second-last ball of the third over.

On the second to last ball of the third over, Perth Scorchers fast bowler Brodie Couch bowled a hard length ball. Babar tried to hit the ball over mid-on but could not get the timing right. The ball came off the splice of the bat and went straight into the air and Laurie Evans took a brilliant catch to end Babar’s stay in Perth.

Big Bash League trolls Babar after his disappointing debut

Babar’s innings ended with just two runs in five balls, disappointing his team and the BBL. At that time, the Sydney Sixers were already in trouble. Daniel Hughes was out early and the team was struggling against the Scorchers at 15 for two in 2.5 overs.

Soon after his dismissal, the official social media accounts of the Big Bash League shared a video highlighting Babar’s first ball of the tournament, which many took to be a cheeky satire on the Pakistani star. He captioned the post: “Babar Azam’s first ball in the Big Bash is a dot!”

While fans trolled Babar fiercely over his unsuccessful BBL debut, many felt that the post was unnecessary and ill-timed. The clip quickly went viral and Babar became the target of online trolling.
