Lucknow Super Giant (LSG) Batter Ayush Badoni has allegedly designed to lead the Delhi state team in the upcoming Indian domestic 2025-26 season. Dainik Jagran’s Lokesh Sharma shared the update on Badoni, which was leading the team before the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, which is scheduled to start from October 15.
A Scheduled Selection Committee meeting was postponed on Tuesday to finalize the investigation for the Under -23 and Ranji Trophy teams. DDCA Secretary and Convenor Ashok Sharma raised objections on the presence of three directors.
In a letter to DDCA President Rohan Jaitley, Sharma emphasized the need for selection meetings to maintain transparency, fairness and integrity of the process.
Ayush Badoni appointed Delhi captain for the upcoming Indian domestic season
According to Lokesh Sharma of Dynik Jagran, Ayush Badoni has been appointed in Captain Delhi for the upcoming Indian domestic season. Badoni has a leadership experience, which has previously led the Delhi Ranji Trophy team and South Delhi Superstars in the Delhi Premier League (DPL).

In November 2024, Ayush Badoni was named Delhi’s Ranji captain, who was taking Middle Masam from Himmat Singh, who was struggling with the form. In his first match as a skipper, Badoni scored an unbeaten 205 against Jharkhand, leading to an important first innings for Delhi.
Ayush Badoni emerged as both Delhi’s leading run-scorer and the highest wicket-taker during the tournament. He also captained Virat Kohli during Kohli’s return from Delhi in January 2025.
Delhi Ranji Trophy failed to proceed in quarter-finals in 2024-25 season
Delhi won the Ranji Trophy title seven times and ended as runners -up on eight occasions. His last win came under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir in 2007-08.
The Delhi team started firmly at the beginning of the 2024-25 season. Captain Ayush Badoni did not score a career best against Jharkhand in a draw match. He won an innings-and-19-run on the railway in his final group-step match, but still failed to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Virat Kohli returned to the competition for Delhi’s last group match, but scored only six runs. Despite scoring 21 points, Delhi could not move forward in the knockout stage, as other teams of their group submitted more points.
Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season is going to start from October 15
The Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season is scheduled to begin on October 15, with 32 teams competition in India’s major domestic test competition. The matches will be held at several places across the country, although BCCI has not yet officially confirmed all places.
The tournaments will run along with other domestic programs, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. The first phase of the matches closes on 15 October, while the second phase will begin on January 22.
32 teams are divided into four elite groups of each eight teams. In particular, the top two teams of each group will proceed to the quarter -finals. The knockout stage, including semi -finals and finals, will be played in five days, which will give teams sufficient opportunities to showcase their skills.
