Even before the first ball was bowled in the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals managed to equal an almost 10-year-old IPL record.
DC is at sixth position in the points table with three wins and three losses. But the noteworthy thing is that they have won the toss in all 7 matches this season. Punjab Kings are currently unbeaten with 5 wins and 1 no result in their six matches. They are now at the top of the points table and would like to retain it.
Delhi Capitals equaled the great record
DC won the toss in all 7 matches this season and extended their streak to 2 since the end of last season. This means that they have now won the toss in nine consecutive matches.
Winning nine consecutive tosses is a joint IPL record. This was first set by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, and was equaled again by Chennai Super Kings in 2019.
Most consecutive tosses won in IPL
9 – Sunrisers Hyderabad (2015-16)
9 – Chennai Super Kings (2019)
9 – Delhi Capitals (2025-26)*
8 – Chennai Super Kings (2018-19)
8 – Rajasthan Royals (2023)
The toss was unimportant – Shreyas Iyer
At the time of the toss, both DC captain Akshar Patel and Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer said that there was no change in their team compared to the previous matches.
In the afternoon match, Patel won the toss and decided to bat first. Iyer said that he wanted to bowl first, so the wishes of both the captains were fulfilled.
“Dry pitch, day game is also very hot. Hopefully I will score a good score and defend it. It looks like the pitch will play at a slow pace, with the bowlers looking to make use of what is on offer. We are playing well but are not winning in important moments. We made silly mistakes and need to stop them on the field and in key moments. Same team, Akshar said.
“The boys have come well. It is extremely hot but there are no complaints. We want the same. We need to keep training hard and get better all the time. We have to keep enjoying the game. I would have bowled first, there was a little discussion with Akshar. He said that he will bat. The toss was inconsequential. Same team, Shreyas Iyer said at the time of toss.
Delhi Capitals trying to turn the season around
Finishing sixth in the points table, Delhi Capitals will be looking to turn their season around. Currently, two other teams are tied with DC with six points each.
The main objective of the Capitals, especially after batting first, will be to improve their net run rate, which is currently negative. But depending on what happens in Saturday night’s game, even a win may not be enough to push Delhi Capitals into the top half of the points table.
