Warner was not required to appear in person at Waverley Local Court. His defense attorney, Bobby Hill, formally entered a guilty plea to the mid-range charge on his client’s behalf. Speaking outside the courtroom, Hill described Warner’s actions as a momentary lapse in judgment following a small social gathering.
“David admitted that on Easter Sunday he was drinking three glasses of wine with his friends… He got into a car and drove away. He admits that getting in his car instead of taking an Uber was a reckless decision, a stupid decisionHill told reporters.
Under current New South Wales traffic law, a first-time mid-range PCA conviction carries strict consequences. Warner faces an automatic driving disqualification of six to 12 months, a fine of up to A$2,200 and a maximum prison sentence of nine months. Magistrate deliberations for sentencing are scheduled to take place on August 18.
