Australian vice-captain Ashley Gardner’s estranged wife Monica Wright has accused him on social media of having an affair with Australian teammate Georgia Woll. The Daily Mail reported the allegations against Gardner; However, none of the claims have been independently confirmed.
Australia Women defeated England Women to win the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final at Lord’s on 5 July. The allegations have attracted considerable attention from the Australian camp, but at the time of writing, neither Cricket Australia, Gardner nor Woll had responded publicly.

Monica Wright responded publicly after the Daily Mail reported the breakdown of her marriage to Ashley Gardner. In a series of Instagram posts, Wright referred to the report before sharing a photo of Australian opening batsman Georgia Woll, alleging that Woll was the person Gardner had an affair with.

Gardner and Woll were part of Australia’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup-winning team. Wright and Gardner, who met through a dating app in 2020, married in April 2025. The allegations have not been independently confirmed, and neither Gardner nor Woll had responded publicly at the time of writing.

According to the Daily Mail, the relationship began to deteriorate during Australia’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup campaign in India. A source told the publication that Wright had noticed Gardner behaving differently during the tour before the pair spoke after returning to their Sydney home.
“It was a bit strange. It seemed like there was something wrong with Ash, but we thought it was because of the pressure of the World Cup… When he reached home, [Gardner] Goes, ‘Hey, look, can we talk?’ And he sat her down… They were going to go to the fertility clinic.”
“They had a booking that Monica had to cancel…Ash went away one day. Monica came home and everything that belonged to Ash was gone except the rings. She left the wedding rings in the cupboard. Just the wedding ring box, and that was it.”
The report also claimed that the couple had planned to start a family before their separation. Gardner is understood to have moved out of their Sydney home following the split, while Wright continues to live at the property.

The Daily Mail reported that Cricket Australia was aware of the breakdown of the marriage. The report claimed that the matter was disclosed to the national selection panel when Gardner was appointed captain of the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League and was later made vice-captain of Australia.
Cricket Australia’s senior communications chief Richard Hinds declined to discuss the matter when contacted for comment by the Daily Mail. “Yeah, no comment on that.”
According to the report, Gardner and Wright met in 2020, got engaged in 2024, and married in the Blue Mountains in April 2025. At the time of writing, neither Gardner nor Georgia Woll had commented publicly on Wright’s allegations.
