Virat Kohli’s struggle continues Australia vs India ODI series The ordeal continued on Thursday when the star Indian batsman was out for the second consecutive duck during the second match at the Adelaide Oval.
Xavier Bartlett dismissed Virat Kohli early
Faced just four deliveries, Kohli The Australian fell to fast bowler Xavier Bartlett, whose quick spells with the new ball rattled India’s top order in the early overs.
Kohli, who came in after the early dismissal of Shubman Gill, looked composed initially, leaving the first three balls and defending. However, Bartlett bowled a brilliant inswinging delivery which bounced back and hit his pads, surprising Kohli. The Indian talisman walked back in disbelief and decided not to review the decision taken on the field.
This is Kohli’s second consecutive duck in the series, after being dismissed for a duck on the first ball against Mitchell Starc in Perth – the first time in his ODI career that he has recorded back-to-back ducks in a bilateral series.

Adelaide Oval: From Kohli’s fortress to his latest heartbreak
The dismissal was particularly poignant given Kohli’s deep association with Adelaide Oval, a venue he often refers to as his “second home ground”. Over the years, he has played some of his most memorable innings here, including centuries in both Tests and ODIs.
Despite the latest disappointment, Kohli’s record at the venue remains unmatched: 976 runs, the most by any visiting batsman at the iconic ground.
Kohli’s rare figure amid brilliant ODI career
Kohli’s consecutive ducks mark a rare dip in his illustrious ODI career, where he has averaged nearly 58 runs per innings with 79 international centuries across all formats.
Back-to-back dismissals will be seen as an anomaly for the 36-year-old, who has bounced back strongly from historically poor spells – especially on Australian soil.
Bartlett’s dream continues in Australia’s bowling attack
The 25-year-old Bartlett, who impressed in the BBL and the recent series against the West Indies, has quickly become a revelation in Australia’s fast bowling unit. His control and ability to generate movement from both sides has troubled even the most experienced batsmen.
Bartlett’s dismissal of Kohli ended the new-ball dominance that India struggled with early on, which explains why he is seen as Australia’s next big pace prospect.
