Australia has taken a big gamble in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. It’s just like the last 50-over World Cup in 2023, when Travis Head’s gamble paid off, and now they are equally hopeful that Cummins’ move will pay off.

Australia announced its preliminary 15-man squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on January 1. Pat Cummins was also a part of the team led by Mitchell Marsh.

Australia will take a big gamble with Pat Cummins for T20 World Cup

Pat Cummins remained injured throughout 2025. Having played just one match in the last 5 months, Cummins’ participation in the ICC T20 World Cup is in serious doubt.

Australia believe Cummins, who is due to have scans in January, will travel to India and Sri Lanka for the second half of the tournament even if he misses the first half. George Bailey also confirmed that Josh Hazlewood is fit and ready for the T20 World Cup 2026.

“I don’t think they will be available for the Pakistan series, but I think both of them should be online (for the World Cup),” Bailey told reporters on Saturday. “Patty could be a little later. It could be a similar situation to Travis Head in the 50-over World Cup, where there is an entry point at some point. Hopefully we can manage him and keep him in the team until that point. I think ‘Half’ (Hazlewood) should be right from the start.”
