Some big updates have emerged regarding the upcoming Asia Cup 2027 tournament. As per the latest updates, the tournament, which was held in the T20I format last year, is likely to be held in the ODI format.
For now, Bangladesh remains the country that has to shoulder the responsibility of hosting a multi-format tournament. If the claims are to be believed, the tournament is likely to be held between June and July in 2027.
Bangladesh to host Asia Cup in 2027
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been selected as the host to arrange the 2027 Asia Cup after last year’s tournament, which was held in two cities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE): Dubai and Abu Dhabi. India emerged champion in that edition by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.
According to the latest update, unlike last year’s Asia Cup, which was held through the T20 International format, the upcoming event could be in a 50-over format. The opening match of the 2027 Asia Cup is likely to begin on June 18, while the final will take place on July 4. An official announcement in this regard is yet to come.

Dispute between India and Bangladesh
The next edition of the tournament could be more interesting and attract more attention due to the recent tension between India and Bangladesh. Before the 2027 T20 World Cup, a dramatic situation was seen between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The BCB refused to travel to India to play the group stage of the T20 World Cup, citing safety concerns for its players and staff. Bangladesh received support from the Pakistan government and the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board throughout the controversial episode.
However, Pakistan’s support proved ineffective as the Jay Shah-led council took strict action against Bangladesh and eliminated them from the major tournament. Scotland entered the title race in place of the Tiger Brigade.
Mustafizur Rahman’s rejection from the Indian Premier League (IPL) was considered to be one of the main reasons; BCB officials did not want to travel to India as part of their protest against the BCCI. Apart from cricket-related issues, there were also geopolitical tensions between India and Bangladesh which fueled the controversy.
Amid this controversy, Team India’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup has become uncertain as Bangladesh is the host country.
Will Team India go to Bangladesh to play 2027 Asia Cup?
The situation between the BCB and BCCI is expected to improve as the newly elected governing body is now in charge of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The current ruling board of BCB has extended its hand to restore its relationship with Indian cricket.
Like the previous edition, 6 teams are expected to feature in the upcoming campaign. As of now, none of the participating boards have officially confirmed the dates and venues of the tournament.
It will be interesting to see in the near future what will be the stand of BCCI after this controversial episode. In the last season, India won the trophy but did not get the cup as Mohsin Naqvi flew away with the trophy as the Indian cricket team refused to take the cup from his hands.
