Experts estimated that he could return to T20i or even lead the smallest format, but the selectors did not mix the formats for selection.

“If Gill is included, he will bat directly at the top and if he does not get a game, he does not have any meaning to be. At the same time it would be unfair to Sanju, who had done well in the past. If Gill could get it, then Sanju may have to remember and Jitesh can get a game,” Indian Express said as a BCCI source.
