Suryakumar Yadav is all set to return to action in the Asia Cup 2025 and lead Team India after recovering from a hernia surgery, which has been sidelined for the last few months. The T20I captain has resumed training for the first time at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru since hernia surgery in June.
Suryakumar recently underwent surgery in Munich, Germany for a sports hernia. In particular, this was his second surgery in two years, after an ankle injury during India’s South Africa’s white ball tour with the previous one in 2024. He is expected to return to India’s next white-ball assignment.

Suryakumar Yadav has been well in T20s. He scored 717 runs in 16 IPL 2025 matches at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.91 with 69 fours and 38 sixes. It was the highest by a non-owner in IPL history and the highest by an Indian batsman from Mumbai in the same season.
The batsman recorded 25 consecutive scores in the last season. He ended as the second largest run-scorer in the tournament.
The 34 -year -old has played 83 T20I matches, scoring 2,598 runs at a strike rate of 167.07 and an average of 38.20 with four centuries and 21 fifty. He is one of the most consistent artists in the shortest format of international cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav missed the West Zone Dilip Trophy squad
Suryakumar Yadav was not included in the West Zone Dalip Trophy squad as he is still undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. Shardul Thakur will lead a strong West Zone side with Shreyas Iyer, Yashsvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan’s choice.
As India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar has attacked the team’s view to bat. Men have recorded several 200+ scores in Blue, including a record 297 against Bangladesh – the second largest total in T20I history.
India have won 18 out of 22 T20s under Surya, the fourth tallest tally for an Indian captain. Their winning percentage is the best among Indian captains with 20 or more T20I. He has to lose back-to-back games yet.
