After India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yusuf took the ugly turn after referring to Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav with derogatory slur on live television.
Mohammad Yusuf expressed displeasure with Jib ‘Pig’ in Suryakumar Yadav
Joseph repeatedly translated him to “Sur Kumar”-while commenting on the subsequent handshake controversy.
The comment made during a television panel discussion has expressed widespread resentment in the cricketing fraternity. Despite the anchor’s attempt to stop him, Joseph remained with insults, criticizing him to cross the line of decency.
The controversy stems from the Asia Cup 2025 Group-Charan encounter in Dubai on 14 September, where India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets. After the victory, Suryakumar Yadav and his associates avoided joining hands with Pakistani players – a symbolic gesture in solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Suryakumar later dedicated victory to Indian armed forces Operations in Sindoor, carrying forward the political and emotional weight around the match.
Pakistan’s response was fast, his players blindly harassed and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filed an official complaint against the match referee Andy Pycroft, which he accused of reducing the situation.
Amit Mishra strongly hit Mohammad Yusuf
Former India spinner Amit Mishra condemned Joseph’s outbreak in no uncertain terms. He called the comment “embarrassing” and “uneducated”, questioning how a cricketer of Joseph’s stature can resort to such personal misuse.
“Despite being a Test cricketer, he has made such a comment. They speak nonsense. They have been doing this for a long time. He complained about the match referee, but it was India’s decision to join hands. We should ignore such people,” Mishra was told to PTI, emphasizing that such behavior reflects more on Joseph’s character than the Indian captain.
Mishra said that Team India’s conduct – despite increasing stress and choosing not to be engaged in symbolic gestures – was a mark of respect for the game and for the terrorist attack victims honored by Suryakumar Yadav.
“I am with the Indian team, and the whole nation is with the team. Pakistan players show their classes. We have not seen Indian players making derogatory remarks. They are not cricketers for me. It shows the difference between cricketers from two countries,” Mishra signed.
Meanwhile, Joseph later tried to justify his comment on social media, but he faced even more backlash. Many people accused him of hiding the criticism by hiding behind emotions rather than accepting the damage done by his words.
“I did not mean to disrespect any player who plays with passion and grace for his country, but why were Indian media and people praising Irfan Pathan when he said Shahid Khan Afridi was barking like a dog? Yusuf wrote on X.
