Arun Dhumal hints at Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s senior India debut amid IPL 2026 heroics

IPL Governing Council Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal said it was the BCCI’s responsibility to show 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi the right way to develop his temperament. Dhumal also spoke about how Suryavanshi’s career could shape up in the next few years and what role both BCCI and his franchise, Rajasthan Royals can play in it.

Dhumal’s comments have come at a time when the demand for including Suryavanshi in the Indian team is increasing. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently the highest run scorer for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. He was also recently included in the India A squad for the unofficial ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka. Suryavanshi also won the Under-19 World Cup with India earlier this year.

Sports is also about mental strength- Arun Dhumal

Arun Singh Dhumal spoke to Times of India and shared his views on Pratibha and how her career should ideally progress.

“I think the BCCI and the franchises will need to help him in terms of showing him the right path so that his temperament remains intact. Because the game is not just about physical prowess, it is also about mental toughness,” Dhumal said.

“And of course, we will do our bit to ensure that the kind of skills he has will allow him to perform for India for many years to come,” he added.

He will also go through ups and downs – Arun Dhumal

Dhumal said that it is natural that Suryavanshi will face ups and downs in his cricket career. He also said that Vaibhav Suryavanshi must have learned this lesson in his short career.

Dhumal said, “Like any great player, he will also go through ups and downs. That’s typical of the game. He will fail. He will go down. But that’s what the game trains you for. You get up and do better in the next game. That’s very integral to preparing you for life. Life will never be a one-way street where you only move forward.”

He said, “I’m sure this boy must have seen many failures considering his performance throughout the season and as part of the Under-19 team. But in the next game, he will try to perform even better and lead his team to victory.”

IPL provides an opportunity- Arun Dhumal on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

The administrator said that there is no better example than Suryavanshi for the IPL’s tagline ‘where talent meets opportunity’. Dhumal praised IPL for giving opportunities to many talented youngsters like Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

“Vaibhav embodies the tagline of the IPL, which is, ‘Where talent meets opportunity.’ That boy is something else, isn’t he?” Dhumal said. “The talent was always there, but how do they get the opportunity? That opportunity, that platform, has been provided by the IPL,” he concluded.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s current form and next match

Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Rajasthan Royals will be in action on Wednesday when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator in New Chandigarh. He has scored 583 runs in 14 matches at an average of 41.64 and an incredible strike rate of 232.

He has also scored 3 half-centuries and one century in the tournament. His 53 sixes are the most by any batsman in the tournament, and he is set to break the record for most sixes in an IPL season.
