India national cricket team’s left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has shared his bold views on the performance of great modern-day batsman Virat Kohli in the opening match of the ODI series against Australia national cricket team.
Arshdeep Singh said form is just a word for Virat Kohli, and his abundant experience will help him score big runs for the India national cricket team in the next few ODIs in the ongoing series.
Being in the same dressing room with him is like a blessing – Arshdeep Singh
Virat Kohli recently made his comeback to international cricket in the first ODI of the three-match series against the Mitchell Marsh-led side at the Perth Stadium.
It was expected that the experienced batsman would set the stage on fire with the way he was training in the nets. However, no such thing happened and he went back to the hut without disturbing the scorers.
Kohli had to reach the middle early due to Rohit Sharma’s dismissal in the fourth over and just a few balls into his innings, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain chased the former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain into the dugout.
On the first ball of the 7th over, Mitchell Starc bowled a full length ball to Kohli, which was pulled into the drive. The Indian batsman was only able to take a thick outside edge and Cooper Connolly caught it brilliantly.
The crowd present at Perth Stadium was absolutely stunned to see this great modern-day batsman returning to the hut after being out for a duck in eight balls.
After India’s defeat in the match, Arshdeep Singh attended a press conference where he was asked about Kohli. He replied by saying that Kohli has played more than 300 ODI matches and it is a blessing to share the dressing room with him.
“He (Virat Kohli) has played more than 300 ODIs for India, so form is just a word for him, he knows how to move forward and being in the same dressing room with him is a blessing,” Arshdeep was quoted as saying by RevSportz.
Going forward, I think there will be a lot of runs for him in this series – Arshdeep Singh
The left-arm pacer also predicted that Kohli will score big in the remaining matches of the three-match series against Australia. He said:
“Going forward, I think there will be a lot of runs for him in this series as well, and talking about the format he is playing, he has mastered it.”
Arshdeep Singh shared the new ball with Mohammed Siraj in the first ODI and took the big wicket of Travis Head for 8 runs in his very first over. Talking about his approach with the ball in ODIs, Arshdeep said:
“The approach is not the same in ODIs compared to T20Is. Your mindset is aggressive in the beginning, that you have to give wickets to the team.”
But there is a mix, initially you have to bowl the length of the red ball – Arshdeep Singh
The left-arm fast bowler from Punjab further said that at the start of the ODI innings, it becomes important to bowl with the length of the red ball, and at the backend, the length of the T20 bowling is important. he insisted:
“But there is a mix, initially you have to bowl the length of the red ball, you have to bowl with a bit of patience, and you have to set the batsman up, whereas in T20 the batsman goes to attack you. And in the last 3-4 overs, you have to bowl with a T20 mentality.”
