Arshdeep Singh in trouble? Mohsin Khan’s India selection becomes a reality after LSG heroics

Former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has supported the selection of Mohsin Khan for Team India after his impressive five-wicket haul in IPL 2026. Bangar stressed that the selectors should keep a close eye on him, as a quality left-arm fast bowler is a rare asset and can add great value to the India national cricket team.

Lucknow Super Giants face Kolkata Knight Riders in an exciting IPL 2026 match at the Ekana Stadium on Sunday, April 26. Despite a brilliant bowling performance by Mohsin Khan taking five vital wickets, the Super Giants suffered a heart-breaking defeat as Kolkata Knight Riders won in a tense Super Over.

Selectors should keep a close eye on Mohsin Khan – Sanjay Bangar

Speaking between the innings on ESPNcricinfo’s Time Out show, Sanjay Bangar said that Mohsin Khan just needs to regain full fitness. Bangar also said that among the left-arm fast bowlers available, Mohsin has all the qualities including extra bounce and the ability to bowl good lengths consistently.

“It’s been a long time and it’s just a matter of getting his core fitness back, because he’s a player with that special skill set that we don’t really have in that quantity in terms of Indian talent. We have a lot of batsmen but the one thing that’s missing is left-handed variety,” Bangar said.

“I believe if you look at the pack we have in terms of left-arm seamers, he impresses the most because of the extra bounce he gets, the ability to hit that length and the heavy ball he has, that’s what they always say. So he has all the makings of an amazing left-arm seamer and the selectors should keep a keen eye on him.”

He got a little help – Carlos Brathwaite praises Mohsin Khan

Former T20 World Cup winner Carlos Brathwaite praised Mohsin Khan’s simple and disciplined bowling approach. He said that Mohsin understood his role well and played it with confidence.

“We talked about the fast bowlers being metronomic on length, being disciplined, enjoying being boring. He got a bit of assistance and when he went short, he really affected the pitch. Sometimes we might rest the ball on a good length to try to get a bit of help to the bowlers, but no, he got out of length.”

“I loved it when he came back for the 11th over, Pant bowled him the over and he came in knowing it was an aggressive over, I needed to take wickets and go all out. I think it was a double-wicket over and that essentially ensured there would be no integration during that phase.”

“So it was a bit risky and I recorded it in my notes as good captaincy and then as soon as the third six came, I had to bowl, or was it? [laughs] But I think he assessed the pitch well and he realized his role, his role is to come back and get wickets, he attacked and he attacked well. But he established it by being real disciplined in the beginning.”

Mohsin Khan’s five wickets went in vain as LSG suffered a thrilling defeat in the Super Over.

Mohsin Khan made an immediate impact during the powerplay, dismissing Tim Seifert with a wicket-maiden over. After this, he put Kolkata Knight Riders under initial pressure by removing Ajinkya Rahane.

He continued his strong spell by deceiving Rovman Powell with a sharp bouncer, which took an edge which was caught by Rishabh Pant. This crucial breakthrough in the middle overs prevented Kolkata Knight Riders from building momentum and playing their natural attacking game.

In his final over, Mohsin Khan took two wickets in consecutive balls, dismissing Cameron Green and Anukul Roy. He performed brilliantly, taking 5 wickets for 23 runs, one of the best performances by an Indian left-arm fast bowler in IPL history.

Despite restricting KKR to 73/6, the match went into a Super Over, where Lucknow Super Giants suffered a close defeat. Mohsin had earlier made his debut in IPL 2022, taking 14 wickets in 9 matches at an economy of 5.96, but injuries ruled him out of the last season.
