Arjun Tendulkar stuns Rishabh Pant with Sachin-style heavy bat ahead of IPL 2026

Arjun Tendulkar is ready for a new journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Before making his debut with LSG, Arjun Tendulkar left LSG captain and Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant with his bat of choice.

The young all-rounder is set to start a new chapter with Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026 after spending two seasons with Mumbai Indians. Arjun has played only five matches for Mumbai Indians, so he is aiming to break into the Indian team with strong performances for LSG.

The Lucknow franchise picked up Tendulkar for Rs 30 lakh in the mini-auction last year. But even before the season has started, Arjun has grabbed attention for a very interesting reason.

In fact, a small detail in the LSG nets made headlines as he was using a heavy bat like his father Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest batsmen the game has ever seen.

During a training camp in Lucknow, Arjun had a fun conversation with Rishabh Pant and that conversation soon turned into a conversation. Pant welcomed Arjun warmly and also praised him for joining preseason training so soon after their marriage.

Rishabh Pant was surprised to see Arjun Tendulkar’s heavy bat.

It showed Arjun’s hunger to work hard and prove himself. Then came the moment of surprise. Arjun revealed that he uses a bat of around “1220 grams” and this stunned Pant, because that kind of bat feels very heavy. This also reminded fans of the Master Blaster, who was also famous for using a much heavier bat than many others during his legendary career.

And when Pant asked what was the point of playing with a heavier bat, Arjun made it clear that he did not like to go below 1200 grams. He replied, “It still blows when you touch it. Dad used to play with 1310-1315. I don’t go below 1200.”

Arjun follows Sachin Tendulkar’s style

Interestingly, Tendulkar had shared that he started playing with a heavy bat at the age of 11, he often used his brother Ajit’s bat and he loved playing with the heavy bat.

He wrote in his autobiography, ‘Playing It My Way’: “I used to use a fairly heavy bat, and sometimes I was encouraged to use a lighter bat. Then, I tried, but I never felt comfortable, because my entire bat swing depended on that weight. When I was hitting drives, I needed the weight to generate power. It all had to do with timing.”

He further added, “For me, the bat should be an extension of your arm, and if you have reached the level where it has become an extension of your arm, why do you need to change? What mattered most to me was feeling comfortable when I was batting. As long as I felt comfortable, it didn’t matter where I was playing or who I was playing against. If you make technical adjustments to deal with different situations, like using a lighter bat, then don’t make yourself uncomfortable. There’s a risk of feeling and thinking too much about your technique.”
