Angry fan Shubman Gill Odi appoints the captain as BCCI

World No. 1 ODE Batter and Test Captain Shubman Gill is set to take over as the new captain of India in the one -day international before the upcoming Australia Tour. The decision to remove Rohit Sharma as captain was made in Ahmedabad on Saturday during a selection meeting under the leadership of Chief Selector Ajit Aggarkar.

Rohit last led India to the Champions Trophy earlier this year, where he won the final against New Zealand. The right -handed batsman will return to competitive cricket in the ODI series with former captain Virat Kohli. He last played competitive cricket during the IPL 2025 season.

India is scheduled to play three ODIs from October 29 to October 25 to October 25 and five T20I during its Australia Tour. Rohit Sharma was expected to lead the side, but the selectors opted to see the 38 -year -old after consulting Gautam Gambhir and BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia.

Rohit and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket before the tour of England. He had already escaped from the T20 Eye after India’s T20 World Cup win last year. The batting pair is only active in the 50 -over format in international cricket.

There was initial uncertainty on his participation in Australia, but giants are focusing on fitness. Rohit has trained in Mumbai under Abhishek Nair and is preparing for the Kohli series in London.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy term is one of the golden times in Indian white ball cricket. He led the team to the two ICC trophies – 2024 for the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy in 2025. He also directed India in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, but the campaign ended in Heartbreak with a defeat to Australia.

Sharma took over the captaincy of Virat Kohli at the end of 2021, when the BCCI decided to appoint a leader in white-ball formats. He directed the team to win 42 out of 56 Odis with only 12 defeats.

Rohit did not lead more matches like MS Dhoni or Kohli. But he ended India’s ICC title Drought, strengthened his legacy as one of the best white ball leaders.
