KKR were already in trouble with two of their openers coming back to the dugout at the start of the powerplay, and TV umpire Rohan Pandit’s controversial decision put Angkrish Raghuvanshi as well as the entire camp in trouble.

Another game and another poor start from the Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen as they failed to maintain their momentum from the previous win and fell once again in the powerplay. Seifert was the first to depart followed by his captain Ajinkya Rahane.

After the controversial decision of the TV umpire, KKR batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi was out in a very strange manner.

However, the main controversy arose over the wicket of Angrish Raghuvanshi, which looked unfair to the young batsman from every angle, as third umpire Rohan Pandit ruled against the KKR batsman.

On the last ball of the final over of the powerplay, Raghuvanshi attempted a single against Prince Yadav, and the ball was cleanly collected by the LSG fielder at short mid-wicket.

Raghuvanshi tried to turn back in the middle of the pitch and in the process he had to take a U-turn, due to which the ball hit his shoe as the fielder hit the stumps. However, LSG appealed for obstruction in the field and the TV umpire found Raghuvanshi guilty of it, thus declaring him out.

Shane Watson in disbelief after Raghuvanshi’s dismissal, Abhishek Nair argues with umpire

After assessing the circumstances, the TV umpire concluded that Angkrish Raghuvanshi was keeping an eye on the ball and his turn was deliberate to block the path of the ball which hit the stumps.

As soon as the three letters in red appeared on the big screen, not only Raghuvanshi on the field but also the coaches off the field were in complete disbelief. Team mentor Dwayne Bravo as well as Shane Watson were surprised.

Head coach Abhishek Nair walked off the field to the umpire and had a heated exchange with him on the sidelines, showing his disapproval of the TV umpire’s strange call. Although the decision was in accordance with the rules, the circumstances did not make it appear that Raghuvanshi intended to cause obstruction on the field.

Mohsin Khan returns with career-best figures against KKR

Apart from that run-out, all the other wickets that fell in KKR’s innings till the 11th over were added to the account of left-arm fast bowler Mohsin Khan. Khan used his variations in a very controlled manner.

After taking three wickets of Tim Seifert, Ajinkya Rahane and Rovman Powell in his first three overs, he returned to break the rising partnership between Rinku Singh and Cameron Green. Green, who hit him for a six, looked to face the slower ball outside the off-stump, but failed to anticipate the pace of the ball.

He topples it and is caught with the gloves by Rishabh Pant. Anukul Roy was greeted with a 143 km/h beamer, and he could do no more than chip it to the fielder at short mid-wicket, but he did just that, giving Mohsin his fifth wicket of the game.

He finished his spell with figures of 5/23 from his 4 overs before being replaced by an influential player.
