Former England cricketer Alan Lamb has opened up about the racial quota system in South African cricket. Lamb, who was born in South Africa and moved to England during the era of apartheid, said that the protiaz quota could have a ‘strong’ side with selection based on ‘merit’ rather than the quota system.
South Africa should field six players, including at least two black African players in a season. Temba Bavuma recently led South Africa to the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 title. However, some teams question the impact of the racial quota system on team selection.

Alan Lamb said that cricket has not achieved the same success as rugby. He said that the current system prohibits the number of selected white players. Lamb said that the selection should be qualified-based. He called for unity between all communities, black, white, colored and Indian.

“Rugby feels that this is correct, but cricket has not got it right,” the lamb told PTI“(Quota) system is overdone. It is now basically, you are only allowed a certain amount of white players.”
