Team India’s fast bowler Akash Deep produced a sensational distribution to dismiss the veteran England Batter Joe Root on 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. However, Route’s dismissal led to the controversy, in which many fans and commentators questioned the validity of delivery.
India announced their second innings at 427/6 during the final session on Saturday 5 July. He set a target of 608 runs for England to win the match. The hosts lost three wickets before stumps at day 4. Ben Docket, Zak Croly, and Joe Root failed to make an impact against Indian bowlers in the final overs.
Joe Root’s dismissal sparked a no-ball controversy on day 4 in Edgbaston
Joe Root’s dismissal shook the controversy, many people called it no-ball. Akash Deep with a full ball sent the route back for just six runs which crashed into the stump. However, after the dismissal, BBC’s commentator Ellison Mitchell said the ball should have been called no-ball.

He told that the leg was about two inches on the line. His observation has created a debate about missed no-ball.
“Delivery from the sky deep – what we said was wide from the crease – his foot is out at the back crease. Perhaps a little more. But comfortably. So comfortably. So the leg behind it, which needs to land inside the line, just tap about two inches on the line.” Mitchell said.

Ravi Shastri rescued Akash deeply, which was the dismissal of the route was legal
Ravi Shastri weighed the dispute around the dismissal of Joe Root, claiming that the delivery of Akash Deep was valid. The former head coach and current commentator of India said that Akash’s leg had landed inside the crease, making the ball legal.
Is Mcc Law 21.5.1 says:
“For a delivery to be impartial in relation to the legs, the delivery stride (21.5.1) should descend inside the back leg of the bowler nor should the return crease not touch his declared mode of delivery. (21.5.2) The bowler’s front legs should be landed with some part of the foot, whether it is included in the returns line in the same limit.”
Root did a disappointing outing in the Edgbaston Test. He scored just 22 runs in 46 delivery in the first innings and was dismissed for only 6 in the second.

Deep ended the day from eight overs with 2/36 figures, while Siraj returned from five to 1/29. Close to play at day 4, England was under pressure, still behind 536 runs, Harry Brook and Oli at the crease with Pope.
Earlier in the match, Akash also impressed England’s first innings, ending with 4/88 in 20 overs. He removed Docket and Oli Pope in the back-to-back delivery and later dismissed Chris Woakes with a well-set Harry Brook and another new ball for 158.
